This is our burden.
When you love someone, you open yourself up to suffering. That’s the sad truth. Maybe they’ll break your heart, maybe you’ll break their heart and never be able to look at yourself in the same way. Those are the risks. The thought of losing so much control over personal happiness is unbearable. That’s the burden. Like wings, they have weight, we feel that weight on our backs, but they are a burden that lifts us. Burdens which allow us to fly.
Um, I’m with someone, Bones. And Hannah - she’s not a consolation prize. I love her. The last thing I want to do is hurt you, but those are the facts.
If we don’t face and overcome unsettling events in life, we are ruled by them.
I hope you find something that just changes the entire notion of what it means to be human.
BRENNAN: I’m tired of all of it. I’m tired of dealing with murders. And victims. And sadness. And pain.
BOOTH: Bones, that’s what we do. We catch bad people and make the world a better place.
Bones, 5x21: The Boy with The Answer
Proffering of overly solicitous advice is indicative of love.
I AM WATCHING BONES. (:
We’re going to live together, and we’re going to love together, and we’re going to have so much fun, and a little pain, and we’re going to live a life that’s just going to make other people die with jealousy, wishing they were us.
Angela, Bones - 5x20: The Witch in the Wardrobe
Two plus two equals four. I put sugar in my coffee and it tastes sweet. The sun comes up because the world turns. These things are beautiful to me. There are mysteries I will never understand, but everywhere I look I see proof that for every effect, there is a corresponding cause, even if I can’t see it. I find that reassuring.
One of you has to have the courage to break this stalemate. You! It’s gotta be you because you’re the gambler. For once, make that work for you.
Brennan: The idea of soul mates actually originated with Plato.
Booth: Yeah, you mean the clay that kids play with.
Brennan: No, the an …oooh, you’re joking.
Booth: What? Me joke? No.
Booth: No, the ancient Greek philosopher. His theory was that humans originally consisted of four arms, four legs and two faces. Zeus was threatened by their power and split them all in half, condemning us all to spend our lives trying to complete ourselves.
YEAH. GO AHEAD, and SAVE THE WORLD.
Wendell Bray, Temperance Brennan and Camille Saroyan dancing in front of a dead body. Your argument is invalid.
THIS IS WHY WE LOVE BONES. Lols.
You love someone, you open yourself up to suffering – that’s the sad truth. Maybe they’ll break your heart, or maybe you’ll break their hart and never be able to look at yourself in the same way. Those are the risks. You see two people and you think, “they belong together,” but nothing happens. The thought of losing so much control over personal happiness is unbearable. That’s the burden. Like wings, they have weight. We feel that weight on our backs but they are a burden that lifts us. A burden that allows us to fly.
Sweets: Well, uh, first I think it's important to find out what went wrong, why you were involved in an unsuccessful relationship.
Angela: Who said it was unsuccessful?
Sweets: You're not together anymore, are you?
Angela: Do you love your parents?
Angela: But you don't live together anymore, does that mean your relationship with mom and dad was unsuccessful?
Sweets: I don't think it's the same.
Angela: I do. Sometimes you have to move on, whatever your feelings.
